I’ll start this out by saying that I am extremely happy for Conner Crumbliss.
Crumbliss is a great guy and he’s a great story. He came to Emporia State as a 130-pound kid his teammates called Squeak. He leaves as one of the best players in the history of the school, 40 pounds heavier and as the MIAA player of the year and a Major League draft pick.
Crumbliss was so excited on Wednesday that when I told him his first name was spelled wrong on the MLB.com draft board — spelled Connor instead of Conner — Crumbliss essentially said, I could care less, I’m the happiest guy in the world right now. You know I just got drafted, right?
It’s rare for a Division II player to get drafted. In the MIAA, only two others have been drafted so far this year. Crumbliss should be proud of himself. He had his named called in the MAJOR LEAGUE draft. The MAJOR (bleeping) LEAGUE draft. How cool is that?

Congrats, Conner! All I have to say is Bob Fornelli sure knows how to recruit and hone his team.
