Emporia city commissioners heard a presentation on Phase I of the Safe Routes to School Program at their work session Wednesday morning.
Bruce Boettcher of BG Consultants presented the results of a study conducted on Logan, Walnut and William Allen White elementary schools as part of Phase I of the program that aims to provide school children with safe routes to walk to and from school. Boettcher described the “five E’s” of the program: engineering, enforcement, encouragement, education and evaluation.
As part of the engineering component of the program, BG Consultants performed a study on the three schools to look for ways to improve walking routes. Some recommended improvements included enhancing crosswalks, sidewalks and traffic signals, adding speed bumps, improving signage and pavement markings and increasing the visibility of routes on which students walk.

hopefully Emporia takes some of that money and fixes that hot mess of a road they call a round about - That is in no way, shape, or form a round about - that's a death trap - I can't believe that thing was built like that. If we had something like that in CT we'd all be dead

Nothing wrong with the roundabout, just some of the drivers that use it.
