THIS WEEKEND, there will be some wonderful barbecue smells filling the air in south Emporia.
On Saturday, Water’s True Value will be hosting Smoke Stock at Peter Pan Park from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The community is welcome to come and fire up smokers and compete in a number of food categories.
If tending to a barbecue smoker is not your thing, but eating is, then come on down. For $10, you can sample the wonderful smoked meats. Kids eat free.
What makes Smoke Stock different from other barbecue events is that organizers will offer a class on how to barbecue. For $25, they will teach you everything you need to know to do restaurant-style barbecue.
They will do a fantastic job.
I know this firsthand, because Water’s True Value held a barbecue class earlier this year that my mother-in-law, Ann Knecht, attended. Since the class, she has had her smoker going and has been turning out fantastic ribs for her family to enjoy.
The man teaching the class is Chris Marks, who has been featured on the Food Channel and the Travel Channel.
The class cost of $25 covers all the supplies and lunch and you can take home everything you prepare.
Attending barbecue events is fun, but knowing how to do barbecue right and filling your table with delicious smoked meats for everyone to enjoy is even better. This is your chance to have a real professional teach you all the secrets.
To reserve your spot in the class or for more information on Smoke Stock, call Mark Shook at Water’s True Value, 343-2800.
See you at the park this weekend.
