If Jennell Tebbetts had designed someone to win her late husband’s 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, the result could have been Emporian Larry Schmitz.
Schmitz’s name was drawn Saturday morning at D&T Auto Sales, 1806 W. Sixth Ave., at the end of a fundraising campaign to help pay for medical expenses for cancer treatment for Dan Tebbetts.
Tebbetts, who died on May 15, loved racing cars and restoring classic and muscle cars to drive and enjoy until he sold them and bought another project car to work on.
For Schmitz, the win was bittersweet because Tebbetts was not there to hand him the keys to the car.
Schmitz, like Tebbetts, is also a Camaro fan — and someone whose family has been touched too many times by cancer.
