Fund set up to help family

Monday, June 8, 2009

A fund has been set up to help a mother of five whose home burned Thursday evening.

The home was at 106 S. Neosho St. and was being rented by Crystal Redick.

The family needs financial help, clothing and household items. Household items needed include plates, dressers and a dinette set.

The fire started in the kitchen, according to Emporia Fire Marshal Tom Andrews. The fire was called in at 9:26 p.m. Thursday at the home. No one was injured and no one was at home at the time of the fire, Andrews said.

The fire was started by unattended cooking oil. The family had left to go to the store, Andrews said. Andrews added that the home was a total loss.

Funds to help the family can be sent to Crystal Redick, c/o Lyon County State Bank, 902 Merchant St., Emporia, KS 66801.

For more information on clothing sizes and additional items needed call Delbert Mayley, who is Redick’s grandfather, at 340-7044.

Items can be dropped off at Mayley’s home, at Green Acres Mobile Home Park, 1753 Road E, Lot 234.
