The Emporia Blues A-16 team finished in third place at a tournament in Manhattan this weekend, beating Junction City 10-8 in the third-place game on Sunday.
James Rodriguez had a double and two RBIs for the Blues against Junction City, and Matt Fry pitched five innings for the victory.
“Matt Fry, he pitched a heckuva game,” Blues coach Jerry Cook said. “He gave us a chance to win. Then Brett Lechien came back in and closed it off and (got) the save.”
The Blues lost 11-3 to Ponderosa, Colo., in their first game Sunday in five innings. The highlight for Emporia was a home run by Ethan Hall.
