A car is waiting for Larry Schmitz when he returns to Emporia.
Schmitz was out of town when Jennell Tebbetts drew his name Saturday morning as the winner of a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, according to one of the raffle organizers, Connie Lewis.
The drawing was the last in a series of fundraisers for Tebbetts’ husband, Dan, who died of bladder and stomach cancer on May 15.
Friends had organized the fundraisers to help the couple pay for medical expenses that had mounted during Dan Tebbett’s treatment for bladder cancer last year and for the treatment he began this spring to combat the cancer’s spread to his stomach.
Dan Tebbetts, owner of D&T Auto Sales, had donated the Camaro and a 1992 Geo Metro from the car lot to use as prizes in the drawings.
Lewis said Schmitz will pick up the Camaro from Jennell Tebbetts at noon on Monday at the car lot.
The fundraisers grossed a total of $51,000.
