‘A Job Well Done’

Saturday, June 6, 2009

AMERICUS — North Lyon County School Superintendent Steve Mollach spent his adult life doing what he loved — working in education. Last month, he retired.

Mollach, who has been superintendent of North Lyon County since 1994, said it was time to retire.

“It was just time,” he said, adding that he’s been at the district 23 years. “After 23 years its time for a new set of eyes — a new vision...”

Mollach said he wants to spend more time with family and retiring will allow him to do so.

Mollach was led to education by John Culley, who was his teacher and coach in high school.

“He always went above and beyond the call of duty,” Mollach said. “I thought that I’d be doing good to be half the person he was.”

I had the honor of working as a long-term substitute teacher at Northern Heights several years ago, and I must say it was a delightful experience. The faculty and staff worked very hard to provide a first-rate education for the students. That alone speaks volumes about the leadership of the North Lyon Co. Schools, especially Steve and Doug Boline, the current principal.

I'll always have fond memories of my time at Heights.
