Emporia U-16 Gold coach Alex Reyes didn’t like how many strikes his players watched go by in a season-opening 3-2 loss to Wamego on Thursday night at Soden’s Grove.
So Reyes gave his players some motivation to swing the bat, and they swung away in an 11-8 win in Game Two.
“The first game we had a lot of strikeouts looking,” Reyes said. “I kind of talked to them about that. If we were struck out looking, practice was going to be a little tough. So they made sure they weren’t going to strike out looking as much, and good things happen when you swing the bat.”
After tallying only four hits in the opener, Emporia racked up 11 hits in just six innings in the second game. And here’s the stat that Reyes has to like — four strikeouts looking in Game One and only one in Game Two.
