‘Adopt a Garden’
Thursday, June 4, 2009
Emporia Main Street kicks off its “Adopt a Garden” program this evening with an event beginning at 6 p.m. at Sixth Avenue and Commercial Street.
More than 25 “gardens” (planting spaces) in downtown Emporia have been adopted by people, families and businesses who will tend the flower beds and other plantings through the growing season. Tonight, they may meet with Extension horticulturist Amy Jordan and master gardeners for advice. Those who are ready to begin planting may do so and there will be a few extra plants available for the effort. The Emporia Fire Department will have a water truck on hand to water the new plantings.
The event will last until 9 p.m.
