Progressives to meet

A group that evolved from a Democratic party caucus will meet Saturday in the Emporia Public Library.

The Kansas Progressive Caucus state meeting will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

The group formed after the Kansas Democratic party began sanctioning caucuses.

“They’ve basically become quasi political groups,” said Progressive member Oswald Backus of Lawrence. “Our agenda is one to be more progressive — Populist, if you will, as Kansas was in the late 1800s. ... It’s not a new thing; it’s a national movement.

Backus estimated the group became organized about 2002. Officers are elected annually during Washington Day activities in Topeka.

“Health care is one of our big focuses right now, that being some kind of a national single-payer health care,” Backus said. “That, and getting Progressives elected, which basically means getting Democrats elected.”

The meeting on Saturday will feature three speakers, including Charles Schollenberger of Kansas City.

The meeting is open to the public, but voting privileges are allowed only to members. Backus said. Membership requirements include being a member of the Democratic party and paying $10 in annual dues.

So the libs are now calling themselves "progressives" in hopes of fooling the sheeple. A pile of dung is still a pile of dung even if you call it fertilizer.

To me "progressive" is a type of rock music..........Yes, Rush, early Genesis, bands like that. I don't know why Democrats dance around the term that truly describes them.......... Socialist. Why beat around the bush about it? They have had lots of practice beating a Bush this shouldn't be that difficult.

Actually, this is just a caucus within the Kansas Democratic Party, dale011- the Kansas Democratic Party Progressive Caucus.

But, if that confuses you, I guess I can see if I can get you in for a shearing..
