SUMMER IS HERE, and if you have family members saying “There is nothing to do,” why not bring them downtown for an evening of fun?
Tonight kicks off the Live in Lot music and movie series. For eight years, Flint Hills Music has hosted these free community events in the Farmers Market parking lot at Seventh Avenue and Merchant Street.
With live bands and popular movies, Live in the Lot provides something for everyone. But one of the best things about it is that it brings the community together. If you attend, you will likely see old friends that you have not seen in a while and chances are you will make some new ones.
This year, the event kicks off with the band DeWayn Brothers who are from Emporia but have been touring the United States and achieved regional acclaim with their bluegrass rock music.
This summer, every Wednesday, bring the family downtown for free family fun under the stars.
• Tonight — At 7:30 p.m. the DeWayn Brothers kick off Live in the Lot, followed at 8:30 p.m. with the movie “Short Circuit,” sponsored by Country Mart.
• June 10 — At 7:30 p.m. The Band Greenhorn is the first of two acts, followed by Machine Garden at 8:30 p.m.
• June 17 — The Co-Dependants play at 7:30 p.m., followed by the movie “Ghostbusters,” sponsored by Capital Federal Savings.
• June 24 — A20 starts the evening at 7:30 p.m., followed by The Black Tuxedos at 8:30 p.m.
• July 1 — The Basement Pickers play at 7:30 p.m. and CoreFirst Bank and Trust sponsors the movie “Footloose” at 8:30 p.m.
• July 8 — Kids Can Dream Out Loud kicks the evening off at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Evil Love Drones at 8:30 p.m.
• July 15 — The band for the evening is Between the Lines at 7:30 p.m., and at 8:30 p.m. ESB Financial brings you the movie “Milo and Otis.”
• July 22 — The final performance of the Live in the Lot concert series features The Dead Idols at 7:30 p.m., with Radio City playing at 8:30 p.m.
