ELMDALE — Many residents who attended the Elmdale City Council meeting Monday evening expressed concerns about Christian Mission Ministry coming into their community.
Chase County resident Janna Hancock, director of Christian Mission Ministry, attended the meeting to answer questions about the ministry.
Hancock and Emporian Angie Clopton are working together on the project to restore the former Elmdale Elementary School and auditorium for the Christian Mission Ministry.
Some residents expressed concern about the residential internship program, which will house up to six interns, all men aged 18 and up. Hancock said the program will be open to the general public and will be intended to be three to six months long. The internship program is still in the developing stages, Hancock said. Responding to a resident’s question about background checks, Hancock said the ministry could possibly do background checks and that sex offenders will not be allowed in the internship program.

Before the residents of Elmdale go too far in their negative attitudes with regard to the proposed use of their old school building, they should take a Sunday afternoon drive up to Dunlap and check out the "positive" impact the old Dunlap school building has on that community.
