Emporia teenager Mariah Serrano remains in critical condition this morning at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, with head and chest injuries sustained Friday in a collision between a passenger car and a semi-tractor trailer. The accident happened about 5 p.m. at the intersection of Roads 220 and M.
Serrano was taken from the scene of the accident by LifeTeam helicopter.
Derek Christiani was taken to Newman Regional Health, then transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where he remained this morning. A Wesley spokesperson had not returned a call about Derek’s condition by press time this morning.
A third teen in the vehicle, Elizabeth Dieker, was admitted to Newman for treatment of injuries and was released on Sunday, a Newman spokesperson said.
According to an earlier report, the passenger vehicle was on its top when Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene of the accident. Two of the teenagers managed to get out of the vehicle, and one needed to be extricated.
The name of the driver of the semi also has not been released. He was not injured. Details of the accident have not been released.
