GINNY SAMPLES who will open a new dance studio in the Kress Center on Sept. 8. She will teach jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop and pointe to students from 3 years old to adult.

• The Emporia Rim Rocker fourth-grade girls basketball team who won the Hutchinson MAYB tournament.

• Lighthouse Baptist Church, which purchased the former Par for the Course driving range and will transform it into a new church.

• Sam Pierson, who published a new book, “Without warning.” The book is based on her own true-crime story.

• Area residents who are taking advantage of the government’s cash for clunkers program and buying their new cars locally.

FLiz Conrade, who started her new job as new executive director of the Flint Hills Community Health Center. Her previous job was with Newman Regional Health as public relations admission coordinator.

• Braum’s, which wants to open a new store on the west side of town near Staples.

• Angela Bartley, who won the pole-bending competition in the National High School Rodeo competition.
