ESU students talk about study trip to Europe

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

For 16 Emporia State University students, a trip to Europe this summer was an examination of leadership in an ever-changing world. The students, part of a global leadership class at ESU, toured Estonia, Latvia, Poland and Lithuania in late May and early June. After their return, they talked about their experiences during a presentation on the ESU campus.

Lessons during the trip focused on the political, religious and economic phases that have transpired in Europe throughout history. The students also learned about the roles of globalization, technology, environment and population and their affect on leadership. The students blogged about their experiences during the trip, posting comments, photos and video at http://esustudyabroad09.wordpress.com.

Students participating were Kristina Boos of Topeka, Kristina Bramwell of Spivey, John Eccles of Broken Arrow, Okla., Sarah Francis of Overland Park, Naomi Gonzalez of Emporia, business administration, Lacee Hanson of Emporia, Jonathon Krueger of Bentley, Jaclyn Lane of Liberal, Whitney McGinnis of Oskaloosa, Michelle McHenry of Belle Plaine, Lauren Padgett of Overland Park, Natalie Skaggs of Gardner, Marcus Summers of Fairview, Nikaela Swarner of Shawnee, Amy Tenpenny of Overland Park and Eden Tullis of Oswego.

Accompanying the students were advisers Pat Neufeld, Jim Williams, Tes Mehring and Taylor Relph, student intern.

During the trip, Emporia State students met with students at ESU’s sister school, the University of Tartu in Estonia. The group also made presentations about American culture and democracy at high schools in Estonia and Lithuania.
