Lyon County Fair kicks off

It’s time once again for the Lyon County Fair. Events start this weekend and continue until Aug. 8.

This year’s fair boasts activities from 4-H judging to rodeos and is capped off with a demolition derby.

Activities at this year’s fair will include:

• Today: 6:30 p.m., Friends of the 4-H picnic, Anderson Building.

• Friday: 6 p.m., Dog show, Anderson Building.

• Saturday: 10 a.m., clothing construction judging, 4-H photography and 4-H geology, Anderson Building; 12:30 p.m., 4-H buymanship, 4-H home environment and 4-H fiber arts judging, Anderson Building; 5 p.m., public fashion revue, Anderson Building.

• Sunday: 9 a.m., horse show, show arena; 11 a.m., hand pet/cat show, Anderson Building; 3 to 5 p.m., shooting sports awards presentation, Anderson Building.

• July 30: 3:30 to 5 p.m., 4-H exhibits entered into Anderson Building except those being conference judged; 5:30 p.m., 4-H visual arts, 4-H foods, 4-H metals, 4-H electric, 4-H woodworking, 4-H rocketry, 4-H reading, 4-H banners and 4-H forestry; 6 to 10 p.m., wristband night at the carnival; 7 p.m. pee-wee open rodeo, 4-H show arena; 8 p.m., antique tractor pull, grandstand.

• July 31: 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., vet check-in (all sheep and goats); 7 to 7:30 p.m., sheep weight-in; 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., meat goat weight-in; after meat goat, swine weight in; 7 p.m., truck and tractor pull, grandstand.

• Aug. 1: 7 to 8 a.m., beef weigh-in; 8 to 9:30 a.m., open class exhibits entered, Anderson Building; 9:30 a.m., meat goat show; 5:30 p.m., Anderson Building open to the public; 6 p.m., Mud-A-Thon, grandstand; 7 p.m., A20 Band, grass area south of Anderson Building.

• Aug. 2: 8 a.m., swine show; 9 a.m., poultry show; 5 p.m., kids pedal tractor pull (show arena); 7 p.m., Ranch Rodeo, grandstand.

• Aug. 3: 8 a.m., rabbit show; 8:30 a.m., beef show; 6 to 10 p.m., wristband night at the carnival; 7 p.m., 4 Days Ago Band, grass area south of Anderson Building; 8 p.m., horse pull, grandstand.

• Aug. 4: 9 a.m., dairy goat show; 10:30 a.m., bucket calf show; 2:30 p.m., 4-H animal exhibits released (except those in livestock sale and round robin); 6 p.m., round robin; 7 p.m., 4 Days Ago Band, grass area south of the Anderson Building; 7:30 p.m., mutton bustin’, grandstand; 8 p.m., Buck Rumble & Roll 2009, grandstand.

• Aug. 5: 6 p.m., livestock sale, show arena; 6 to 10 p.m., wristband night at the carnival; 7 p.m., Black Tuxedos Band, grass area south of the Anderson Building.

• Aug. 6: 6 p.m., 4-H rodeo, grandstand.

• Aug. 7: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., all exhibits released from the Anderson Building; 7 p.m., Hope Community Church Band, grass area south of the Anderson Building; 7 p.m., ATV races, grandstand.

• Aug. 8: 6 p.m., Demolition Derby, grandstand; last night for carnival.
