Staples joins in school-supply drive

Staples and DoSomething.org have joined forces again for the annual Do Something 101 nationwide school supply drive. Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Ciara also will take part in the effort.
“Ciara is encouraging Emporia teens to make a difference this summer by collecting school supplies and dropping them off at their nearest Staples store, from July 5 through Sept. 19,” said Staples spokesman Toby Srebnik.
Ciara has recorded a public service announcement that will be broadcast on television and radio stations through the end of the campaign, and Staples will donate more than $125,000 worth of school supplies to the program.
Staples customers can become involved by donating $1 at any Staples store, with 100 percent of the proceeds used to benefit local teens in need, Srebnik said.
Locally, the supplies and donations will be given to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Emporia-area teens who want to become involved in the project may go to www.DoSomething101.org for ideas on how to run a local school-supply drive. Drives can be held at summer camps, during sports leagues, at neighborhood block parties and other community venues.
The Staples store in Emporia is located at 2200 Industrial Road.
