Emporia rallies to end losing streak
Monday, July 20, 2009
A seventh-inning rally for the Emporia AAAs enabled them to stop their eight-game losing streak and end the regular season with a win on Sunday in Pittsburg.
Harrison Stone grounded a single between third base and shortstop in the bottom of the seventh inning to score two runs and give Emporia a 5-4 walk-off victory over Blue Valley West. After losing two games on Saturday and blowing a lead to lose 18-11 to Pittsburg earlier on Sunday, the AAAs’ streak-stopping win was much-needed.
“The guys played really well against Pittsburg both games, and we knew that if we just kind of put a solid game together that we’d have a chance to be in it,” Emporia coach Brad Kelly said. “... It was good to get a victory in our last regular season game.”
