John Crisp will teach an introductory course in solar cooking design from 6 to 8 p.m. July 28 and 30 at the Flint Hills Technical College.
Crisp has more than 30 years’ experience in building and cooking with solar cookers.
His course will include panel, box, and parabolic cookers, according to information from Bill Hanlon of the tech college’s sustainable living center.
“Students will explore simple, inexpensive, do-it-yourself creations to commercial models, improvised and experimental designs, economics, and global applications,” a news release about the course stated.
At the end of the course, graduates will be eligible to participate in a solar cook-off demonstration in late summer at the Farmers Market, Seventh Avenue and Merchant Street.
Resources and recipes will be provided for advanced experimentations. Cost of the course is $29.

This person has a blog where they are cooking using a solar oven every day for a year. Pretty cool!

Thanks for that link to the solar oven chef. What an interesting project. I would be worried about meat and toxins developing, but apparently it isn't a problem. I may take that course.
