ZAC WHITE, who won a statewide essay contest at the 2009 Sunflower State Games. The contest was sponsored by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
• Logan Cayton, who won the Emporia Junior Open Tennis Tournament in the boys singles 12 and 14 age divisions and won the boys 14 doubles event.
• Organizers and participants who held a fundraiser for the Americus pool. The event raised more than $2,000 for pool renovations.
• Lauren Longbine, who helped her KC Power volleyball team win the national championship in Miami, Fla.
• Emporia wrestlers who competed in the Kansas Sunflower State Games. Damian Herrera won the 11- and 12-year old division. Mike Tovar, John Nichols and Mick Rodriguez all finished second in their age divisions. Nate Rodriguez and Daniel Herrara finished third.
• Ken Roper, who was a runner-up at the Midwest Section PGA Senior Match Play Championship at the Nicklaus Club at LionsGate in Overland Park.
• An anonymous donor who gave money to the Emporia Arts Council to make it possible for the Art Mobile to entertain and enlighten children at the Emporia Childcare Centers.
• Jami Reever, who was selected as the new director of the United Way of the Flint Hills. She will move to Emporia from Johnstown, Pa., where she was director of development for Our Mother of Sorrows School.
• RES Americas, which has leased 12,000 acres in Lyon and Osage counties to build a wind farm. They are hoping to lease another 13,000 acres for the project.
• Heather Bailey, Shawna Short and Aimee Morris, who are opening a new salon in Granada Plaza & Lofts. Bravo will open Aug. 4.
