The annual meeting of the Emporia Lions Club was held June 17 at the Emporia Country Club, attended by 36 members and guests.
Officers installed were: Nina Haught, president; Robert Symmonds, first vice president; June Hubert, second vice president; Clay Sligh, third vice president; Sally Conard, secretary; DeDe Thomas, treasurer; Steve Haught, tail twister; George Walters, lion tamer. The past president is Phil Dillon. Members of the board of directors are Clarence Boyer, Joe Jones, Jim Thomas and Bob Grover.
The Lion of the Year award was presented to Gary Post for his organization of the Salvation Army bell ringing, Biscuit and Gravy Breakfast and Member Recruitment. Doctors Heath and Tricia Holliday were honored for providing free examinations to people of the Emporia area in need of eye care. Steve Haught was recognized as being a 25-year member. New members inducted into the club by past district governor Bob Symmonds were Will Symmonds, Toni Harrell and Steve Schellhamer. The program was presented by Jim Harter, associate vice president for International Studies at ESU and two international students.
