Aimee Morris

Age: 38

Location: Emporia, KS

Occupation: Cosmetologist and owner of Changes Hair Salon.

Family members: Husband, Mike, 40; Dagan, 13; Hayden, 9

I carve out time for myself by: Watching TV (I’m a DVR junkie!)

My favorite outdoor activity to do with my children: We do a lot of bike riding and walking on nature trails.

The most important life lesson I want my children to learn: To be responsible, kind and respect others.

My proudest moment as a parent: When I see a smile on my child’s face, and they have achieved a goal that they have set for themselves.

The way I encourage green habits in my kids: Dagan encouraged our family to go green by purchasing recycling bins for plastic, glass, cardboard and paper and also using a compost bin.

I get my kids to eat their fruits and vegetables by: Dipping them in ketchup and ranch dressing — I have to purchase it by the gallon!

Favorite way to slow down as a family: We love to sit around our fire pit and visit about what is going on in our lives.

The kid’s snack I most likely to be caught eating: Ice cream.

My favorite book to read to my children: My children loved to have the book “Is Your Mama a Llama?” read to them when they were younger.

I fit fitness into my life by: I love to walk down our road as my children drive our golf cart and pick up cans. Great way to recycle and for the kids to make money.

The future parenting moment I fear most: When my kids start driving as teenagers.

I realized I turned into my mother when: I call my kids by the wrong name and the funny thing is, they realize who I was calling anyway.

If I could throw a temper tantrum it would be because: My children will pass a trash can as they are opening a snack and instead of throwing it away in the trash can they will stuff it inside or under the couch.

The one thing as a kid I promised I’d never do as a parent: I would not name my children a name that they could not find on a craft — such as key chains, pencils, etc. Then I named my first child Dagan, which he complains that he can never find his name on anything!

If I had an “I’d rather be ...” bumper sticker on my car, it would say: I’d rather be working in my flower beds (I have a lot of flowers).

One way I teach my kids to be proud of their country is: The freedom that they have in their daily lives and that we have that freedom because of our veterans that paid the price for it. I have taught them to always respect the American flag.
