Making it possible

ON JUNE 17-20, Emporia became the favorite city for five special teachers and their families. The National Teachers Hall of Fame was host to these inductees and their few days here were very fulfilling. Each honored teacher was kept busy with roundtable discussions, the Emporia Community Band Concert, KVOE Talk of Emporia and finally their induction into the Hall. They loved the friendliness of our town and the caring people. Many need to be thanked for helping make this event a huge success.
Many deserve thanks! Several Emporia businesses helped by purchasing tables so that teachers had an opportunity to attend the banquet. Emporia Motors donated vehicles to help transport the inductees around. Many businesses and individuals helped with funding to get the inductees to Emporia. The Hopkins Family generously donated for the “Because You Cared” program. Host families were crucial in making them feel at home. Glen and Carol Strickland spent hours on public relations for the event. This list goes on. Our community made these special teachers feel appreciated and loved as they never had before.
However, this event could not have occurred without the strong leadership of Jenny Harder, our NTHF staff member! We, as citizens of this community, need to thank Jenny for her tireless efforts in planning and coordinating the inductees’ visit to ‘Teacher Town USA,’ making it a time they will always remember and treasure. Please join the Board of Trustees of the National Teachers Hall of Fame in saying “thank you” to Jenny Harder for a job very well done.
