People who had stopped for an accident Saturday afternoon rescued the driver of a semi-tractor trailer that briefly caught fire on U.S. Highway 50 west of Emporia.
According to a report from Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Welsh, Alireza Kheyrandish, 52, of Houston, Texas, was driving the semi east when the truck left the roadway and ran into a line of trees.
Citizens pulled Kheyrandish from the vehicle. Emporia-Lyon County emergency medical technicians took the driver by ambulance to Newman Regional Health. A spokesman said the hospital could not release any information about Kheyrandish.
The accident remains under investigation.
