The second “tea party” in protest to excessive government spending is planned from 10 a.m. to noon on July 4 at William L. White Memorial Park at Sixth Avenue and Merchant Street.
Kris Kobach, a Republican candidate for Kansas Secretary of State, will be the keynote speaker at the gathering, which has been named the Liberty Tea Party.
Kobach is a law professor at the University of Missouri in Kansas City and specializes in constitutional, election, and immigration law, according to information from tea party sponsors.
He is the host of “The Kris Kobach Show,” a weekly program about current legal issues, broadcast on KMBZ-AM 980.
Former Kansas House of Representative Majority Leader Shari Weber also is scheduled to speak at the event.
Weber served in the Kansas House from 1994 to 2004 and was majority leader in 2001-02. She had been president and CEO of the Community Bankers Association of Kansas and currently is executive director of American Majority of Kansas. The latter group is identified as a “candidate and activist training institute.”

goodoleboy,
come down to the "Royal" before the party and I'll fix you up with a big iced tea. It will be in a coors light cup though.

rbow,
If I was going to be in town I would, due to the fact the city has taken to moving the fireworks display from its traditional location, my friends and I will not be gathering at our usual place(I live in the country). Henceforth until it is returned to the fairground I will be spending my time and money out of town. Some other time for sure though my friend!

"The second “tea party” in protest to excessive government spending is planned......"
Obviously Bobbi doesn't watch enough MSNBC, if she did she'd know how misleading her opening statement is. It's REALLY all about racists getting together to protest a black president........
I just like to get in a dig at the White House's favorite network (by their own spokesmans' admission, they LOVE them....) whenever I can, since on here it seems like its usually more fun to blast, say, O'Reilly's views instead...... oh well, whatever tickles your funny bone - LOL
Observation, if you smoke tea, I might get ill from SHC (Second Hand Caffeine) fumes..... so I'm forming a new group called EAST (Emporians Against Smoking Tea), which is in direct opposition to the group WEST (Wellness Enhanced by Smoking Tea)...... which, of course each had offshoot groups which were more ambivalent in their goal, such as NORTH (No Orders/Rules for Tea Haters), and SOUTH (Some Order/Rules for Tea Haters)...... all of which, of course, are funded by your tax $$ as part of the "stimulus bill"........ (excluding caffeine-free tea, which contains no stimulant)....... LOL

crackinsack,
Alot of people in Emporia felt the sam about you smoking ban campaigners. YOu all could have found a NEW "usual place" to hang out without taking the rights that soldiers in America have fought to give you!! Please make up your mind whether you want a free country or not.

The "Tea Party" was very nice, thank you for asking.:-)
There were about 100 people there, and several speakers.
Maybe, you should go to one crackinsack, to see what they're about.
Seriously, I was a little disappointed in the turnout..but, it was on a holiday weekend, and maybe inconvenient for some people to go. I didn't go to the first one, but after reading about it in the Gazette, I wanted to see what it was all about.
I'd like to see a little more celebration, and, excitement, and people looking for answers and discussion...Maybe some speakers that generates some debate. It would be fun to hear pro's and cons on the Health Care Bill, and, other issues.
Maybe more people from the Forums should show up....or maybe you all don't have any concerns, issues, or opinions?......LOLOLOLOLOLO

And why are people referred to as unpatriotic for attending the tea party?? I would like to know how many Military personnel or Veterans may have attended this function!!

emporia_soldier.. I wasn't aware that it was unpatriotic to attend the tea party, but, someone also didn't inform my husband who is a Veteran, and very patriotic.
and, thank you for your service to our country emporia_soldier.

Shut up Crapinsack!... Maybe you should attend a meeting before you start calling anyone unpatriotic.
If I want to complain about taxes, it's my "right"..Read the first Amendment...it gives people the right to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Covernment for redress or grievances.
And, NO one was being unpatriotic on the 4th.
How do you know we weren't supporting our country's birthday? How dare you call us unpatriotic?
Crapinsack...I have been reading the Forum for a long time, and haven't posted until a few days ago, because I wanted to support Sarah Palin, but I do know that there are few angrier people in Emporia than you.
You whine, and complain, insult people, and incite all kinds of hateful arguements on the Forum.
Sometimes, it really just funny, and other times it's stupid and childish. But you are crossing the line telling people that are standing up for what they believe in, and abiding by the law, and doing no harm to anyone.. "unpatriotic".
You're a self righteous jerk, that gripes about any and everything, including the fact that the fireworks weren't where you wanted them this year.
Last year we had NO fireworks!..Did you like that better?
I'd say someone that didn't go to celebrate their countries Birthday, because he didn't get his way about where they had the fireworks, is more unpatriotic than people who carried flags to a meeting, and stood up for what they believe it.
I'm proud to be an American..My husband is a Veteran, and I have 4 sons that served our country, so people like you could have the freedom to spew some of the crap you do.

You’re not the sharpest tool in the shed, now are ya?
Crapinsack, You're just a tool!..period..aren't ya?
I was not protesting our country's birthday, and I don't know of anyone there that had that in mind.
In answer to your other qustions..."out of curiosity". None of my sons are in the Military today, How many of them went to college is really none of your business, but I can tell you this, I know "without doubt" 2 of them have a higher education than you...so don't throw anymore of your self righteous crap at me.
I do appreciate you providing the technology they used to keep them safe, while they served. I am aware that not everyone serves in the military. You see, not ALL my children served.
and, by the way...The tea party was not about "protesting paying taxes"...I pay my taxes...I am not complaining about paying taxes...I do not want to pay more taxes because my country is in debt into the next century.
Now, Crapinsack, maybe you should attend one of the tea partys, in the future, just to see what they are about, and what kind of "unpatriotic" .."not smartest tools in the shed" people attend them.
I have never said I am better than you, and, if I misread that you didn't complain about the fireworks, I apologize for that.
I admit, I was angry about your unpatriotic remarks.
I still think you are a self righteous jerk. You were assuming that my sons were still in the military, and didn't have a college education, or "higher education", like you..thats why you were just curious as to where they went to college?

Thank you Crackinsack, I think we can agree that we both have passion on certain subjects that get the best of us.
I apologize, as well, especially for accusing you of saying what "goodoleboy" said.
As far as your opinion of the 4th of July, now that I'm sort of calming down, and reading your posts slower :-) ..I understand what you said about appreciating our nation on Independence Day.
So you know, I was just attending the event. I am not an organizer, or involved in any other way. But, if given the opportunity, I would let them know what you have said about honoring the 4th of July.
I'm sure that, in the future, you and I will not agree on other matters, but I promise to read slower, and think longer before replying. (but, just know I have a short fuse too, when it comes to something I'm passionate about).
Maybe we can agree to disagree?
Lordy, you made me mad! :-)

Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.

You're not supposed to be so blind with patriotism that you can't face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who says it.
Malcolm X
Patriotism
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Love of country; devotion to the welfare of one's country; the virtues and actions of a patriot; the passion which inspires one to serve one's country.
Guess I don't see what crack was getting at. Somehow to crack these people were being unpatriotic. How is it poor form to say that you love your country but want to see it be even better, and to better serve and represent its people?
Somehow, an education from an organized educational system, puts some people above others. I mean how can someone in the service industry or any other blue collar job possibly be as important as someone with a college education. Puh-leeze! Get your head out. BTW, crack do you know how childish and snobby you sound throwing that out there, like it makes a difference? You lack a great deal of wisdom when you feel the need to belittle someone because they don't do as you do.

Point is crack, you can love your country and still not agree with where it is headed. We started out as a reveloutionary country. As a general rule shouldn't our country always be changing for the better. To do so, our people should be able to discuss their wants, needs, and fears to get that positive change.
Sure we pay taxes, nobody said that it was all bad. What we pay for with them is a big issue however. Just because a few people want to save the otters doesn't mean everyone should be forced to support that cause. Private monies should be raised for such pet projects. I think that is what these TEA parties are about, however I haven't been able to attend one yet to find out.
Furthermore crack, for you to never attend one of these events, shows how lacking either your higher education was or just how self righteous you can be.
If you don't attend at least to understand the point, then you don't have enough information to make an educated decision about whether or not their points are justified.
