No word from Starbucks

Saturday, January 31, 2009

No word whether the Emporia Starbucks at 2916 Eaglecrest Drive will be one of those falling under the shadow of the company’s announcement that it will close 300 stores worldwide.

Corporate headquarters said Wednesday that it planned to close the stores and cut 6,700 jobs. Last summer, the company announced the closing of underperforming 600 stores.

A call to the Emporia Starbucks got the information that the employees of the store, on orders from the company, could not comment on the closings or speculate on what stores would be closed.

Starbucks is expected to release a list soon of the stores to be closed, as the company did last summer.

Granda Coffee Co. is the best in town. Worth the effort to get out of your car and go in. Far better than Starbucks.

Just got a message from a buddy of mine that works for Starbucks Corporate in Washington (for now). He said that the three hundred stores are most likely in "saturated" areas. I. E. areas that have more than one store in close proximity will be thinned out. So, I doubt Emporia will loose its store, but I have to agree with other posters that I still prefer Java Cat and Granada Coffee, I just don't like seeing businesses go under.

I have a 6-cup French press and make my own coffee from whole beans I grind each time. It makes excellent coffee. Fast too. Boil water, grind beans and place in press, pour in boiling water, wait 4 minutes and press. Voila! I will agree that coffee is excellent from places like Granada and Starbucks and Java Cat, and I do stop for a cup now and then, but it's just getting too expensive. Hope Starbucks stays because I don't like to see any business close.

Is it me, or does Starbuck's coffee always taste burnt? I much prefer the Granada and Java Cat.

I've tried Java Cat and Granada many times, but the quality of their coffee drinks is just too erratic. I prefer Starbucks and visit several times a week.
