Cottonwood Falls
The Chase County Leader-News reported that the Cottonwood Falls City Council agreed to lease the former municipal building. Sue Smith of the Emma Chase Cafe in Cottonwood Falls offered the city $400 per month to rent the building. Smith increased her offer to $431.41 and the council approved the offer.
Burlington
The Coffey County Republican reported that the Burlington school board voted to continue the 21st Century Community Learning Center program for the 2009-10 school year. The board had considered a fee increase for the program but tabled that issue. The program provides after-school activities for students.
• The Coffey County Republican reported that Angela Brown and Janet Payne have purchased the former Eliott Insurance Group and Rock Creek Realty and changed the names to TrustPoint Real Estate. Payne and Brown said it is the right time for the move.
Chase County
The Chase County Leader-News reported that the county will not hold a primary election because not enough candidates have filed to necessitate a primary election. Chase County is still short a few candidates to fill the 26 positions for school board and municipal government that voters will decide in the April 7 election.
