A pancake feed, prizes, and a potato and soup bar have been scheduled in conjunction with the Polar Bear Plunge on Feb. 28 at Mouse Lake, 1101 Topeka St.
The third-annual Plunge is a fundraiser for the local Special Olympics team and is open to anyone who can raise a minimum of $75 and is willing to jump into the lake in the dead of winter.
Individuals and teams may enter, with prizes being awarded for the wimpiest plunge, most enthusiastic plunge, highest fundraising individual and team, and best individual and team costumes. Last year, 117 plungers raised more than $27,000 for Special Olympics.
The day will start with registration and a pancake feed at the Emporia Senior Center. The cost is $5 per person. Participants will go to Mouse Lake at 10:30 a.m., with the plunge scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. After the event, a potato and soup bar will be served at the senior center at a cost of $5 per person.
