TO MISQUOTE Strother Martin’s line in the movie “Cool Hand Luke,” “What we have here is a failure to understand.”
I fail to understand why people seem to have an urge or need to back into parking spots. I need someone to explain why they do this, other than get out and away quicker. It seems to me to be such a waste of time. I used to think it was some machismo thing that guys do, but now I see more women doing it, also. I watched one guy take six tries at backing into a spot only to be left crooked and still four feet out. Why bother?
I fail to understand why so many people leave their vehicles running when going into a convenience store. It is my understanding that it is illegal to leave a vehicle running unattended. I get so tempted to jump into one of these cars and move it.
I fail to understand why so many hunters have to wear camouflage clothing. Personally, I detest camouflage and consider it as a crutch for people who do not know how to hunt. Is hunter’s orange not required any longer? Seems like that would take away the camouflaged things. I also have a particular dislike for tree and baited stands. Stalk hunting is a lost art. Try it some time. After all, it is called “hunting,” not “baiting and waiting.”

simple, backing in allows for a clear vision when exiting the parking space. Also should you have vehicle trouble, it's easy to jump start the vehicle. If you choose to move one of those vehicles, I hope you will enjoy being charged with vehicle theft. Don't think it's illegal to leave a car running but it probably isn't a good idea, not to mention a waste of gas. As far as hunters, I'm glad they wear that stuff, sets them apart from the rest of the folk.

I will back into a spot at work in the winter so I'm not pointing north. People can't park either way half the time in the Walmart parking it seems. :)

What, no crackinsack here to attack a person for having an opinion? Maybe he just agrees with this one and so, is letting it go. Or maybe.............just maybe.............this is crackinsack trying to make a point somehow? One has to wonder.
Okay, now I'm done wondering and don't care anymore.

Speaking of failures to communicate, Mr. Finuf, you didn't indicate whether the driver was parallel parking or not. I always back into a parallel space. Don't you?
Sorry you're having a bad day. I've had them too. And yes, some people are miserable at parking. Driving too. I yell at them all the time; it's a good thing my windows are up.

I don't like certain hats. I think we should ban them. And, on certain days, I don't like certain colors, so I think people should be banned from wearing clothes of those colors on those days.
I also have a particular dislike for turnips. They should be banned in Emporia.
Well, I feel better now. I hope this particular article also made Mr. Finuf feel better after airing his views.

Someone Must Think the world revolves around them, I'm sure many fail to understand why David Finuf does things he does, Like worry so much about how people park. Maybe the guy is trying to quit smoking before the ban! lol

Continuing with open_eyes's theme.
I fail to understand why people watch television. If you turn it up to much it gets loud and the screen is too bright. They are heavy too. Some CRT TVs weigh a couple hundred pounds and LCD and plasma displays are so light they can easily be tipped over if not properly secured. The gall of these broadcast, cable and satellite TV companies for wanting to provide us with visual entertainment, news, etc. I just don't care for it and griping about it hopefully keeps me off the street where people back into parking spaces.

If I saw a hunter wearing camouflage clothing making six attempts at backing his pickup hauling a tree stand into a parking spot at a convenience store, parks crooked and outside his space, and then gets out and leaves the engine running, I don't know what I'd do!!

I just got back from a restaurant. It peeves me how you have a good conversation going, and your glass of water is only down an inch from being full, and the waitress comes along and fills it to nearly running over and interrupts you to ask if you need anything else, ruining your train of thought in your conversation. She's just lucky she wasn't wearing camouflage clothing. Good thing I backed into the parking space, I got the heck out of there in a hurry. Wish I had left my motor running, though.....

There are times when I have to back into a parking space to get in it because my pickup has a long wheelbase and does not turn as sharp as most pickups do that have shorter wheelbases. Also, as pointed out earlier, it is easier to see to leave.
As far as camoflauge, It is allowed for turkey and waterfoul hunting whereas blaze orange is required for deer hunting.

My pet peeve: People who are not handicapped, and have no handicapped passengers, who park in a handicap parking place just because they happen to be driving a car with the handicap placard.

irish and rbow: How do you know they aren't handicapped? Just because they aren't limping or in a wheelchair? Some have COPD from smoking for 30 years and can't walk for very long without stopping to gasp. Some have heart conditions. Some have skin conditions that cause the bottoms of their feet to blister if they walk for very long on hot pavement. Some have joint problems. We're not all in wheelchairs.

Well create,
I think irish was refering to people who don't actually have a handicapp but are just using the placard.
I myself have one due to my medical condition that is not readily visible so I know what you mean. Not all handicaps are readilly apperant.
