Lowe’s comment delayed
A public hearing on the Lowe’s project that was scheduled for the Emporia City Commission’s Feb. 4 meeting will be opened on that date, but will be adjourned before public testimony is taken. The hearing will be continued at the commission’s Feb. 18 meeting, at which time public comments will be heard. City officials say the final development plan will not be ready in time for next week’s meeting.
Businesses of the year
An Emporia pet-sitting business and an Olpe vineyard are among the 16 Kansas Emerging and Existing Businesses of the Year, chosen by the Kansas Small Business Development Center. In a news release Wednesday, the center said Pet Sitting Pal of Emporia and Eagle Creek Vineyards of Olpe were among the businesses being honored.
One emerging business and one existing business were chosen in each of the center’s eight regions. Pet Sitting Pal and Eagle Creek Vineyards were chosen by the Small Business Development Center at Emporia State University.
Renee Flott is the owner of Pet Sitting Pal and Jo Ann Kuhlmann owns Eagle Creek.
The awards ceremony is set for 3 to 5 p.m. March 10 at the Dillon House, 404 S.W. Ninth St. in Topeka.
