Moran files to run for U.S. Senate

Thursday, January 29, 2009

January 29, 2009 – Congressman Jerry Moran today filed the necessary paperwork with the Kansas Secretary of State to be on the ballot as a candidate for the United States Senate in the 2010 election. In November, Moran filed paperwork to begin accepting contributions for the race. Moran is seeking the seat being vacated by Senator Sam Brownback.

"In my travels across the state, Kansans have been encouraging me to run for this Senate seat and I have listened," Moran said. "My first priority has always been the people I represent, the people of Kansas. And what I hear from Kansans is that they are tired of politics as usual in Washington, D.C. My priority in this campaign will be to focus on how we can get our country back on track. I will work to forge a new direction in politics in America, not the same old politics as usual of which the American people have grown weary."

Moran has carved out a place as a conservative, independent voice for Kansans consistently voting against irresponsible expansion of the federal government even when pressured by House leadership to be supportive. He has led efforts in Congress to expand services to veterans from WWII to today's war on terror. Moran has also been an ardent worker for expanding access while lowering the costs of quality health care to Kansans. He has also worked to keep control over classrooms in local hands, fighting against federal intervention into schools.

"I have worked to become an independent voice in Washington, D.C. that listens to the people I represent and not to party or House leaders. As I move forward with this campaign and as I look ahead to serving our state in the United States Senate, I will continue to always put Kansans above the pressures of Washington, D.C."
