Books and chocolate
It’s a good time to join the Friends of the Emporia Public Library. Next month, members of the library’s support organization will be welcome at “A Salute to Friends: A Chocolate Extravaganza,” from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Feb. 22 in the library’s meeting rooms.
The event will include chocolate and other festive foods and demonstrations by caterers and chocolatiers. A chocolate fountain, fondue and other treats will be available. There will also be prize drawings.
Memberships will be available at the door at $15 for individuals, $20 for families and $150 for life memberships. For a membership form, visit the library at 110 E. Sixth Ave. or www.emporialibrary.org
Church evacuated
Emporia Presbyterian Church’s downtown building was evacuated on Sunday because of a problem with the boiler. The Emporia Fire Department was called to identify the problem that was creating an unsafe level of carbon monoxide in parts of the building.
The Sunday service and the congregation’s annual meeting were moved to the church’s west campus, 1702 West 15th Ave.
A news release from the church said the boiler has been turned off and a replacement has been ordered. The church office will remain open at the downtown location. Services will take place at the west campus at the regular time on Sunday. The church will make decisions about Sunday services later in February as more is known about replacement of the boiler.
