Madison's boys went scoreless for about the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, but still managed a 41-40 victory over Hartford on Tuesday in the first round of the Lyon County League Tournament.
Hartford's Adam Ewy drew a foul in the act of shooting a 3-pointer with 3.9 seconds remaining and the Jaguars down two. Ewy made the first foul shot, but missed the second and third. Madison's Caleb Hamilton rebounded, and the Bulldogs played keep-away and ran out the clock.
Josh Buster's 3 pointer with about two minutes remaining in the game broke the Bulldogs' scoring drought and gave them a 40-39 advantage. Henry Ott added a free throw with 34.6 seconds left, but Hamilton missed two foul shots with 24.3 to go, giving Hartford its final opportunity.
Michael Luthi led the Bulldogs with 15 points. Ewy had 16 to lead Hartford. The Bulldogs move on to Friday's semifinals to play the winner of Tuesday night's matchup between Olpe and Burlingame. The Jags will take on the loser of that game in the consolation bracket Thursday.
