The Madison News reported that the Madison City Council accepted the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department law enforcement contract for 2009. The council agreed to 40 hours a week of guaranteed law enforcement.

The Madison News reported that Trudie Rhodes, Madison’s Postmaster for 24 years, is retiring the end of January. Rhodes began working at the post office in Madison on March 22, 1980 as a part-time clerk.
White City
The Council Grove Republican reported that White City High School received the governor’s award. The school is one of 18 schools in the state to receive the award. To be eligible, the school must receive standard of excellence in reading and math, meet Annual Yearly Progress, meet the state mandated high school graduation rate and be in the top 5 percent in reading and math scores.
