The Osage City girls have coasted through the Flint Hills League this season, thanks to pressure defense and a couple of speedy guards.
On Thursday in the Flint Hills Shootout, the Lady Indians finally met their match in Chase County, the tourney’s No. 4 seed. The Bulldogs led by eight at halftime and looked poised to provide the first bracketbuster this week on the girls’ side. But eventually the Lady Indians’ pressure defense and two timely 3-pointers helped move them onto Saturday’s championship with a 45-40 victory.
“We knew they were going to come out fighting to beat us because they played us tough the first time,” Osage City sophomore Carly Spicer said. “We were kind of expecting it. We just didn’t come out as strong as we should have.”
