‘Eggs & Issues’ this week
The first of three “Eggs & Issues” forums will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lee Beran Recreation Center, 313 W. Fourth Ave. Area legislators with speak and take questions from the audience. Before the forum, coffee and rolls will be served from 8 to 8:30 a.m.
The series of free community political forums is sponsored by the legislative committee of the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and the League of Women Voters. The other forums this year will be Feb. 14 at Presbyterian Manor and March 14 at Flint Hills Technical College.
Leffler, Schmidt file
Bill Leffler has filed for re-election for Position 5 in the North Lyon County school district. He is the first candidate to file in the district. Other board members in the district whose terms are expiring are Joe Fehr and James Scott Davis.
In Southern Lyon County, incumbent Jeanette Schmidt filed late Tuesday for re-election. Bill Veatch and Craig Clark had already filed. Board members Kent Grieder and Kenneth Hammond have yet to file.
Appointed member Brett Windsor is still the only candidate to file for the Emporia school board race. Incumbent Mary Helmer has said she will not seek re-election. Mike Crouch’s term also expires this year.
The deadline for filing for school board races in Lyon County is noon Tuesday.
