The Dale and Carolyn Davis Endowed Scholarship has been established with the Emporia State University Foundation, targeted at a full-time business or education major who is a Lyon County high school graduate.
Dale Davis is president and CEO of Sauder Custom Fabrication. He has served as city commissioner and mayor of Emporia, and has been active in campaign funding support.
The Davises are not ESU alumni, but Dale Davis has served on the ESU Foundation Board of Trustees. They explained their motivation in creating the endowment by emphasizing their family ties to the university.
“We have two daughters and a daughter-in-law, as well as other family members, who are graduates of ESU and are teachers,” Dale Davis said. “Some students find the cost of higher education almost out of reach, students who have the potential to become great teachers or business leaders.”
Davis said that the scholarship should emphasize to its recipients the community investment it represents.
“I think it means that there are a lot of people in society who value higher education and recognize its importance,” he said.
