High school students who want to check into financial aid can meet with representatives of the College Goal Sunday organization from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 8 in the Emporia High School library.
According to information from CGS, the group will provide free financial-aid assistance at 20 locations throughout Kansas.
Four college-bound students at each College Goal Sunday location will win $500 scholarships to the college or trade school of choice. The only restriction is that each winner must be a first-semester freshman in the fall of 2009, according to information from CGS.
Those who attend need to bring:
• Parents, if possible
• 2008 tax returns, if they are ready
• 2008 W-2 forms
• Student and parent personal identification numbers. PINs are available on-line at www.pin.ed.gov
If tax returns are not available, families need to bring 2007 tax forms, plus the last pay stubs received in December 2008 by the student and by parents, to show year-to-date earnings. Statements of interest earned also need to be provided for 2008.
College Goal Sunday is a non-profit event coordinated by the Kansas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and other volunteers. It is sponsored by USA Funds and Lumina Foundation for Education. The program was created by Indiana Student Financial Aid Association with funding from Lilly Endowment and supplemental support from Lumina.
