ESU women beat Washburn

Final
The ninth-ranked Emporia State women won a battle for first place in the MIAA on Saturday, beating No. 7 Washburn 85-78 in front of 4,243 at White Auditorium.
Cassondra Boston led the Lady Hornets with 24 points, and Ida Edwards had her seventh double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Allie Renberg came off the bench to score 10 points and grab six rebounds.
For Washburn, Janice Bright scored a career-high 31 points and was a perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line.
The Lady Hornets also excelled at the line, making 32-of-36, including an 11-for-13 effort from Boston.
Emporia State built its lead in the first half, going on a 13-0 run to take the lead for good. The Lady Hornets improve to 14-2 on the season and 8-1 in the MIAA. Washburn fell to 14-3 and 7-3 in the MIAA.

Trailing 18-14, the Lady Hornets used a 13-0 run to take the lead. Washburn went 8 minutes, 8 seconds without a field goal and shot only 26.7 percent in the first half.
Ida Edwards has eight points and eight rebounds, and Andrea Leiker added seven points. Emporia State is 8-for-8 at the free throw line, where Boston has scored four of her points.
