ESU women try to avenge losses to rival last season, remain in 1st place

Emporia State guard Andrea Leiker has great memories of the rivalry against Washburn.
For one, the Lady Hornets’ win two years ago at White Auditorium in a game that was televised comes to mind. Leiker, the usually reserved guard, got caught up in the moment and even chest-bumped a teammate at one point.
“I’m not usually one who does something like that,” Leiker said. “When you’re in the moment and things happen like that, your adrenaline is going and you just kind of go with what’s going on in the moment. ... That was probably the most crazy game I’ve ever been a part of. It was so loud in there and that’ll be one I always remember.”
Leiker and her teammate would rather forget the three meetings with the Lady Blues last season. Washburn swept the Lady Hornets and ended their season with a 73-58 win at the South Central Regional Championship.
“I think it’s going to be a different story this year,” Ida Edwards said.
