Hornet hitting camp
The Emporia State baseball team is having a hitting camp on Jan. 17 and Jan. 24 for ages 14-18 at the HPER Building, located north of Welch Stadium. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The camp will cover the fundamentals of hitting and bunting with individual instruction. The cost for one session is $50 with checks made payable to Emporia State Baseball. For more information, call 341-5930.
Local Knights of Columbus
to sponsor youth
free throw contest
All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2009 Knights of Columbus free throw championship. This local competition will be held Jan. 18 at the Emporia High School gymnasium from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. Entry forms will be available on the day of competition. For more information, contact Cruz Jasso at 341-2365, ext. 219, or 342-7075.
MAYB tournament
in Emporia
Mid-America Youth Basketball will be hosting a tournament in Emporia for third- through eighth-grade boys and girls on Feb. 7-8.
The tournament carries a $150 entry fee and a three-game guarantee. The registration deadline is Jan. 23. To register, call 316-284-0354 or visit MAYB’s Web site at www.mayb.com.
MAYB is also holding tournaments for third- through eighth-grade boys and girls in the following cities:

Openings for
softball players
The Emporia Energy is looking for players for the 2009 fast-pitch softball season. The team is looking mainly for U-10 and U-14 players but would be interested in players of all ages. Winter practices started Jan. 6, so please call or e-mail soon to express your interest.
