NEW YORK (AP) — A US Airways plane has crashed into the Hudson River, sending passengers fleeing for safety in the frigid waters.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown says the US Airways Flight 1549 had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport enroute to Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday when the crash occured.
Brown says the plane, an Airbus 320, may have been hit by birds.
New York City firefighters are responding to the crash. It was not immediately clear if there were injuries.
Witness Barbara Sambriski, a researcher at The Associated Press, said, "I just thought, 'Why is it so low?' And, splash, it hit the water."

I'll be praying for all those people. Imagine how cold the water must be! Even good swimmers will drown in icy waters due to shock. Wow! That's quite a picture!

WOW! I'm glad everyone is ok. Who would have thought birds could do that. Hmmm... I think I won't be flying any time soon. Since everyone is ok no one was hurt I'm going to be a smart a$$ and pop off something off the wall. Why you ask?! Because I'm crabby. I wander if the pilot will be prosecuted for endangering passengers. He "accidentely" hit those birds right!? We know he wasn't smoking so was he looking for his nicotine gum and looked up to late to miss them.... OOPS! News says he is a hero. Never mind.

It takes alot of skill to not only land a big jet on water but with no engine without splitting the plane in half. This pilot is truely a hero.

Not sure why the smoking issue has to enter every single posting on this URL? There are other issues in the world and in Emporia other than that one single topic.

I believe johnsmith addressed that, justthefacts:
"Why you ask?! Because I'm crabby."
It's colder than freezing and I can relate.
