Topeka — The Emporia High boys would love to pretend that Tuesday night didn’t happen. Or at the least, they’d just like to forget it.
Seaman’s Vikings took it to the Spartans early and often, scoring with disturbing ease against Emporia’s previously stellar defense and controlling the game from tip-off to buzzer. Behind 31 points from unstoppable guard Bryce Simons, the Vikings handled Emporia 76-64, and the Spartans’ rough night was topped off with a scary moment with 59.2 seconds left, when point guard Taylor Euler collapsed backwards on the floor after rolling his ankle.
Euler was confident after the game that his iced ankle would be fine. But the backwards fall he took, unfortunately, was a fitting image for how things went for Emporia compared to their first three games of Centennial League play.
