“It’s been a steady stream since we announced it, really,” arts council director Melissa Windsor said. “In the early season offerings, we offered them as a special discount to members, so even before they were offered to the general public we sold over 200. So it’s gone really well. It looks like we’re going to have a sellout.”
The musical comedy, starring Sally Struthers, will be performed one time only at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Granada Theatre.
Tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for children, and are available at the theater box office, 342-3342, or at the Emporia Arts Council, 340-6473.
The show features the story of the five surviving Little Sisters of Hoboken as they stage a talent show to raise money. The New York Times has called it “a hail of fun and frolic.” There have been more than 5,000 productions of the show around the world since its debut.
“It’s going to be a quality production,” Windsor said. “The excitement, of course, is that we have Sally Struthers as the star who will be here. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to see Broadway without going to New York. And it’s a wonderful bargain. You really aren’t going to find ticket prices for anything of this caliber at this price range anywhere.”

It sounds wonderful but $30 a ticket is out of a lot of people's reach right now. For $60 I can buy a couple bags of groceries to feed my family instead of an hour or two of entertainment. I hope those who can afford it have a great time.
