Volunteers are needed for the sixth grade “Homework Lunch” program. Volunteers, especially education majors or retired persons, are needed to commit to at least one day a week to tutor sixth-grade students with homework from 11:15 to 1 p.m. at Lowther North Intermediate School, 216 W. Sixth Ave. Those interested are to call Lorie Rogan at 341-2350.
Volunteers also are needed for the “MASTER” Program (Mentors And Students Together Embracing Reading) for sixth-grade students. The program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to improve their reading, vocabulary and comprehension skills by pairing students with dedicated mentors willling to commit to working one-on-one with a student for 40 minutes each day. Mentors can be parents, students, business men or women or retired individuals. All mentors attend an orientation session before being paired with a student. Morning mentors are especially needed.
