Workers and patrons were being evacuated from the Emporia Public Library shortly before 1 p.m. today after an electrical fire broke out in the building at 110 E. Sixth Ave. The evacuation was halted after firefighters found a breaker box that had smoke coming out of it.
Emporia Fire Marshal Tom Andrews said the smoke was contained to the breaker box. At 1:16 p.m., fire department command was terminated and Schumann Electric was fixing a switch in the breaker box, according to police scanner traffic.
