Coach Bob Yevak’s forecast for Emporia High’s boys swimming team — that the Spartans would show improved endurance at their first meet after the holiday break — turned out to be correct.
The Spartans finished fifth at Tuesday’s swim meet at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka, hosted by Topeka West, but EHS recorded 34 personal-best times, and Yevak deemed the Spartans’ endurance “excellent.”
Emporia finished with 299 points for the meet, six points behind fourth-place Hayden. Topeka High won the event with a team score of 416, edging Washburn Rural by one point. Seaman finished third.
