Karen Schell earns national award

Karen Schell, registered respiratory therapist and director of cardiopulmonary services at Newman Regional Health, received the 2008 National Delegate of the Year Award at the American Association of Respiratory Care’s annual convention in December.
Schell was selected by Speaker of the House, Frank Salvatore, to receive the Delegate of the Year award based on her efforts to effectively represent the state of Kansas on the national level. The Delegate of the Year award is given to the delegate that has excelled in working on the goals set forth by the House of Delegates to further the respiratory care profession.
Respiratory therapists are specialized healthcare providers who take care of people with lung conditions ranging from asthma to COPD. Schell has been an employee at Newman Regional Health for 19 years.
The American Association for Respiratory Care, headquartered in Dallas , is a professional association of respiratory therapists that focuses primarily on respiratory therapy education and research. The organization’s goals are to ensure that respiratory patients receive safe and effective care from qualified professionals as well as supporting respiratory health care providers.
