Monday, January 12, 2009

Emporia Christian School held an Elected Officials Day last Tuesday.

The program consisted of the pledges, singing the song “God Bless the USA,” a time for the elected officials to speak to the students about their positions as elected officials, and a time for students to ask questions.

Several students were interested in being a page for the House of Representatives.

The elected officials who attended were Kansas State Reps. Don Hill and Peggy Mast, Emporia City Commissioners Julia Johnson and Jim Kessler, newly elected Lyon County Commissioner Theresa Walters and County Clerk Tammy Vopat, Lyon County Treasurer Dora Hartig and Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman.

After the program, the officials took photos with the different ECS classes. In the back row of the photos at left are Goodman, Vopat, Hartig, Walters, Johnson, Hill and Kessler. Mast had to leave before the photos were taken.
